Our story

About Culturally Speaking SLPs

Three speech-language pathologists, a friendship built through the work, and a shared belief that therapy should be meaningful to the person in front of us.

How we began

Culturally Speaking SLPs was created by three SLPs who became best friends. Each of us brings more than a decade of experience working with children and individuals with a wide range of communication and learning needs. We have supported bilingual students and people with learning disabilities, autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and feeding challenges.

Across different settings and populations, one lesson has stayed with us: a useful resource begins with understanding the individual—not just a diagnosis, grade level, or therapy target.

Why Culturally Speaking?

Language is connected to family, culture, community, and identity. A child's home language and lived experiences should be welcomed into speech-language support. We created this platform to bring culturally and linguistically responsive thinking into practical materials that SLPs can use in everyday sessions.

Our approach

See the whole person

We consider strengths, interests, relationships, and communication across settings.

Honor every language

We recognize dialects and home languages as part of a person's story and access to connection.

Make therapy useful

We create activities and tools that support meaningful participation beyond the therapy room.

Culturally Speaking SLPs brings our clinical experience, creativity, and friendship together in one place for the professionals and families who support communication every day.
